Glenn Wood Tap - RAD Ballet - Acro Exam

Rutherford Studio

Our Exam Program is our most challenging but most rewarding program.

The skills learnt throughout the course of each program turn good dancers into highly skilled performers.

Is your child someone that loves to be challenged? They will be perfect for this program and will see outstanding improvements in skill and performance.

If a student is interested in a career in the Dance Industry, learning the Skills in the Exam Program would be very beneficial.

What Exam Programs do we offer

Here at SBDS we pride ourselves on offering an internationally-recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of all ages.

Exam training plays a big part in the overall development of our dancers and gives them the training and skills required to pursue a career as a Dance Teacher or National / International Performer.

The structure of each syllabus is broken down into achievable levels that each student completes. At the end of each level, the student will sit an exam, assessed by an external examiner, before progressing to the next level.

Ballet (Royal Academy of Dance syllabus)

Tap (Glenn Wood Tap Syllabus)

AcroDance (Acrobatic Arts syllabus).

Benefits of Completing Exams

Career

Opens up the possibility of becoming a Dance Teacher or performing in Australia or Overseas. (We have ex-students who have gone on to become teachers and also working and performing abroad)

Discipline

A high level of detail is expected when completing exams. Respect, concentration and high standards of appearance are to be upheld at all times.

Time Management

Each level increases in complexity and volume. The students learn how to manage their time to get through the work to a high standard.

Work Ethic

Students are required to practise what they learn in their own time.

A good work ethic at home will be reflected in their results.

Resume

Many students have received good feedback when applying for a part time job that completing exams shows the quality of the individual.

Sense of Achievement

Exams require hard work. It is not for everyone. Students who complete each level get a real kick out of successfully passing the exam.

 WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

We have been a part of the amazing SBDS family for eight years now, what started as something to build confidence for our girls, has become so much more.
It is taught them so much more than dancing. The strength, commitment, passion, teamwork, respect and friendship is second to none.
The teachers love our girls and treat them as we do.
Couldn’t recommend highly enough.
Not just a dance studio...... a dance family
— Alison Creamer
Makayla has been with the studio for 7 years, she is involved in Recreational, Competitive, Exam Class and has started her first year as a Student Teacher. The support from Miss Sarah and her staff is next to none, they help their students grow not only as individuals but as part of a team with confidence and respect. My Daughter inspires to be just like her coaches.
— Alicia Gibbon
14 years ago I enrolled our then 5 yr old in dance classes with Sarah Brown Dance Studios. Little did I realise then the path our child would follow and how it would impact on her growth and development not only as a dancer but the person she would become.
Sarah and her staff not only taught our child to ‘dance’ but also taught her self discipline, pride in her appearance and most of all to believe in herself.
My experience with the studio is and has always been a team committed to providing a happy, friendly and fun environment for children while at the same time a professional environment that caters for every level of learning and need.
In my 14 yrs as a ‘dance mum’ I’ve also witnessed the introduction of Social Media to the studio and although this created a whole new level of complexed issues Sarah and her team have managed the hurdles involved with professionalism and compassion.
For us SBDS isn’t just a dance studio where you learn to dance. It’s a ‘Dance Family’! Life longs bonds are formed, emotions flow and love is felt! From tiny little princess ballerinas to high level tappers, cheer, acro, competition, the list goes on.. I highly recommend SBDS Dance and Cheer!
— Joanne Borrett
SBDS Dance and Cheer has truly been a wonderful experience for my son.
He has been attending SBDS Dance and Cheer for the past 8 years which is more than half his life. The teachers are professional, knowledgeable and always willing to go out of their way to mentor and support all students.
I have recommended SBDS dance studio to a few of my friends who are now part of the SBDS dance family as I found it is a place where students learn the importance of respect and laughter.
His love for dance has grown from being a part of the SBDS Family starting as a recreational student then moving into being a member of several elite teams and participating in the Dance step program to empower him to serve as a role model , grow as a leader and care for others in the dance studio. It has given him a place away from the rest of the world, where he can be himself and ‘dance like no-one is watching’.
The last 2 years has seen him gain confidence and start to compete solo at eisteddfods for TAP and Jazz with some great results.
My son would not be the dancer he is today without Sarah and her incredible teachers at SBDS.
